Understanding Pigeon White Diarrhea-Dropping

Pigeon white diarrhea is a severe condition often linked to pullorum disease, which poses a significant threat to the health of your birds. This illness can result in high mortality rates among young pigeons and decreased production in adults. Recognizing the symptoms early is crucial to effective management and treatment.

Symptoms to Watch For

The primary symptoms of pigeon white diarrhea include:

  • Lethargy and Weakness: Infected pigeons appear sluggish and inactive, exhibiting marked weakness.
  • Anorexia: A loss of appetite leads to significant weight loss, further compromising their health.
  • White Diarrhea: The presence of loose, watery droppings that are typically white or yellowish is a key indicator of the disease.
  • Whitish Fecal Pasting: Fecal matter may accumulate around the vent, creating a noticeable whitish or yellowish paste.
  • Huddling: Affected birds may seek warmth by huddling together or near heat sources.
  • Ruffled Feathers: Illness manifests in unkempt feathers, indicating discomfort and poor health.
  • Depression: Infected pigeons may appear withdrawn, exhibiting signs of distress.

Other noticeable signs include loud chirping, closed eyes, and occasional gasping. Prompt recognition of these symptoms is essential in mitigating the disease’s impact.

Impact on Poultry Production

Pullorum disease results in several detrimental effects on pigeon production:

  • Increased Mortality: This disease is particularly fatal in young chicks.
  • Reduced Egg Production: Mature pigeons may experience a decline in egg-laying capabilities.
  • Poor Hatchability: The hatchability of eggs from infected birds can drastically decrease, impacting breeding flocks.
  • Unthrifty Recovered Birds: Even after recovery, some birds may struggle to thrive.

These factors can have a considerable economic impact on pigeon keepers and breeders.

Preventive Measures and Treatment

The root cause of pigeon white diarrhea is the bacterium Salmonella Pullorum, which can be transmitted through infected eggs or direct contact with sick birds. Effective prevention strategies include:

  • Biosecurity Measures: Isolating new birds and regularly disinfecting equipment and living areas can curb the disease’s spread.
  • Vaccination: Vaccines against pullorum disease are available and recommended to protect your flock.

Treatment Protocol: Administering Azicine Powder can provide relief. Dosages vary by weight:

  • For birds 100g-200g: One black gram with 10 ml water, morning and evening.
  • For birds 200g-400g: Two black grams with 20 ml water, morning and evening.
  • For birds 400g-800g: Four black grams with 30 ml water, morning and evening.

Continue the treatment for 3 to 5 days, extending to 7 days for severe cases. Remember to store Croaksim Powder in a cool, dry, and dark place, and protect it from sunlight.
